Konchavaram

Banjara is one of the backward communities. The community is noted for its distinguished and characteristic practices, traditions and splendid and impressive costumes. However this community has been suffering from poverty, illiteracy and superstitions. There are several instances of sale of the children in Gulbarga district by their own parents who are in the abject poverty. 5hri P. Umesh Naik has been directing under Banjara Cine Creations banner a cinema
titled "Konchavaram" on the basis of child trafficking.

Cinema is a very powerful and highly influential medium which is capable of transforming the down trodden people into educated, literate and a more conscious of their rights thereby preventing this heinous act of child selling which is the main object and motto of the cinema "Konchavaram". There are very few people in the Banjara community who are involved themselves in qualitatively good film making. 50 also there are very few films in this language which can claim a quality. Our aim is to make a film of superior quality which will be capable of attracting attention of the state, national and international level. Your corporation and support is very essential in order to successfully accomplish the mission undertaken by us. We have successfully completed the shooting ofthe film and also a partial work of editing is completed. A few other jobs such as dubbing, rerecording, first copy and getting censored are yet to be completed and are pending for want of financing. It can be screened before the society and the media only after the above requirements are fulfilled. For the completion of the above jobs we need Rs. 10,00000/- (rupees ten lakh). From now onward every stage requires expenditure without which there can be no progress in our work. We are looking forward to your generous and kind cooperation and support both financial and moral. In order to make these dreams come true we request the people of our community to support this cause of the community with great enthusiasm, dedication and commitment.

Synopsis
Harini has been running an N.G.O. organization. She visits "Konchavaram" thanada when her friend and police inspector Rathod asks her to do so. Nobody in the village responds to her positively when she tries to interact with them on her visit to the said thanda. She does not get any cooperation in the village as a result of the attitude of Kalya Naik. She gets acquainted with one Jainabai and stays there. It is there that she collects information of thanda.

She creates awareness amongst the people and call for becoming self reliant and stop child trafficking. The people of the village do not heed to her appeal. Kalya Naik does not allow Harini to go against the practices and superstitions prevalent in thanda. Harini becomes desperate. In the course ofthe events that take place as consequence of sale of illicit arrack and child trafficking, Harani gets c1osetothe head ofthe village and gets his friendship for some extent. She perseveres to take the people for darkness to light and from superstition to science. This infuriates Kalya Naik to agreat extent.

She doesn't have sufficient resources to provide education to the children, to provide jobs to the people to make them self-reliant and to make it a model thanda in accordance with her dreams. She visits Gramina Bank, Department of Social Welfare, Development Corporation and the like for the purpose generating funds in order to make the ends meet. Her request for financial assistance from her uncle also goes futile. In the ultimate analysis, did the people of "Konchavaram" thanda became industrious and self-reliant, did the children get education and what happened to the dreams of Harini - is the theme of the story-line.
